    Once upon a time in the 14th century, carrots were imported into Europe but they didn’t resemble the carrots we know today – they were purple (as well as red and white!) It wasn’t until the 16th century that orange carrots were grown in Holland and later imported to England.

    Calling the chef’s table Purple Carrot emphasises John’s philosophy about food provenance and taking his menus back to nature, as well as people’s hunger to know more about where their food has come from.

    80% of the produce (including purple carrots) is home-grown in the walled garden of the old manor house – all cultivated in the old-fashioned manner by Martin the gardener
